My Daily Wellness Routine: Products, Rituals & Habits

This is a paid advertorial sponsored by Me Today New Zealand

Wellness is a funny word. These days this word is always linked to things like veganism, crystals and apple cider vinegar shots, but I personally think it’s much more simple than the cliché, hippy, LA lifestyle with celery juice and home-made oat milk that we see all over social media. I believe that “wellness” is less about trends and more about what is scientifically proven to make you feel fantastic. It’s as basic as drinking more water, going outside once a day for fresh air, it’s doing the things that make you feel like life is manageable, like life really isn’t that hard, it’s taking control of our own daily habits and rituals so that we feel amazing every single day.

I’m super conscious about what could trigger a headache or an energy crash later in the day, so I always start my morning with a huge glass of water to rehydrate my body. Then I get out of bed and depending on the weather, I’ll either head out for a run or for a reformer pilates class to clear my head. Scientists have proven that the best treatment for anxiety and depression is exercise above anything else and I can definitely confirm that by getting my workouts done first thing in the morning I am able to tackle the day ahead with a clear mind and a tension free chest (something I’ve always struggled with).

As soon as I’m back in the door, I tend to make my morning collagen protein smoothie to fuel my body for the first half of the day. I LOVE a smoothie because it’s a quick way to get a whole heap of nutrients in before lunch, so I always ensure that there are heaps of greens and slow burn energy foods like oats and bananas in there. My current favourite recipe tastes like strawberry real fruit ice cream in the summer, all I use is a banana, some frozen strawberries, vanilla protein collagen powder, oats, frozen spinach, kale, oat milk, and ice! It literally tastes like strawberry real fruit ice cream and it’s so delish!

Next up I’ll have a shower, and start my favourite wellness ritual of the day, my skincare routine. This is a sacred ritual for me and it’s non-negotiable, it’s not just about skin health but it’s about taking the time in the morning to really practice self-love and be present. I pop on a podcast and take it slow, applying products delicately with intention. I never wash my face in the shower because my skin is extremely sensitive to steam and hot water, so I’ll finish up in the shower, jump out and start cleansing with a gentle cream cleanser, the cruelty free, vegan & New Zealand made Me Today Women’s Daily Cream Cleanser is perfect for my morning cleanse as it’s not abrasive or stripping and leaves my skin feeling super soft and hydrated.

Lately I’ve been keeping my routine really simple, so I’ll layer some more hydration with the Me Today Women’s Daily Mist Toner, the Women’s Daily Eye Creamthe Women’s Daily Serum & the Women’s Daily Moisturiser topped off with a good SPF50. As a lot of you know I’m huge on ingredients, I’m a bit of an ingredient nerd, so I love that all of the products in this line are packed full of vitamins like Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) which is an absolute wonder ingredient that can sort out uneven skin tone, strengthen the skin barrier, smooth out fine lines & Vitamin C, a wonderful antioxidant that will help keep your skin looking bright and protected from the external environment.

Next up it’s supplements. I tend to change things up with my supplement intake throughout the year, but right now as we’re still in the chilly months it’s all about immunity strength. Year-round, I take Me Today’s Women’s Daily for my general health which is packed full of 28 essential vitamins, minerals and herbs. I think it’s important to take a general wellbeing supplement just to ensure that we’re always getting the vitamins our body needs, especially if we have days where our diet might not be so well rounded!

At the moment I’m taking Protect which is full of vitamin C & echinacea to support your immune function. Depending on how I’m feeling that week, I’ll switch between Becalm (with magnesium, turmeric & lemon balm for stress management & sore muscles) or Energise (with ashwagandha to provide stress support & B Vitamins to support energy production) if it’s that “time of the month” or if I’m just feeling particularly sluggish.

Next I tend to sit down for the day to get some work done, but throughout these hours I’m really aware of my water in-take. People often ask what they can do for their dull/dry skin, and my first answer before suggesting products is always to drink more water. My skin can look completely different from one day when I’ve had 3 litres of water to the next where I completely forget to drink it all together. The broken blood vessel under my nose and any lingering acne scars are more prominent, I get headaches and my dark circles are.. dark. I try to drink at least 2.5 litres of water per day, it keeps my skin looks clear, plump, glowing and is by far one of the best ways to maintain really glowing skin! And the best part? it’s free. Get yourself a cute bottle that keeps your water cold all day and you’ll never forget to drink it!

My other must do throughout the working hours is to continuously apply lip balm, my lips get chapped so easily if I don’t continuously apply throughout the day, especially in the winter. If you love a minty lip balm, you’ll love the the Me Today Protect Lip Balm just as much as I do. What I love about it is that it actually works, so many lip balms just lick off or don’t quite absorb, but this one is amazing and I keep it within reach at all times! It’s an essential!

After dinner, taking time to really wind down from the day is incredibly important for me in order to get a good night’s sleep which I think is so undervalued these days. A good night’s sleep is make or break for me, I’m one of those people who simply cannot function if I don’t get my 8 hours! So I love an early dinner, a bit of TV with my partner and then at 9 PM I make myself a cup of chamomile tea to start my evening routine.

I’ll take my time doing evening skincare and often will do a face mask a couple of times a week just to give my skin a little more nourishment and an extra boost of hydration. The Me Today Women’s Daily Face Mask is this gorgeous almost gooey (in a GOOD way) mask that feels like calming, hydrating honey absorbing into the skin. It’s a weekly go-to and I’ll leave it on my face for a good 10-15 minutes before carrying on with my evening skincare routine.

I’ve always been a bookworm but I took a bit of a break and only just got back into reading last year and it’s been huge for my overall mental wellbeing. Getting off my phone an hour before bed and immersing myself into a book has been life changing not only for my mental health but to help me drift off to sleep, I am always reading until I can’t keep my eyes open. I also take a magnesium supplement every single night because it helps to reduce muscle tension if you’ve been working out, helps to calm your adrenals and gets you drifting off to sleep. The Me Today Goodnight supplement is fab because it’s got your Magnesium as well as Valerian which helps to reduce any type of tension and restlessness, so it’s a great herb to be taking for sleep support!

This routine helps me pop off to sleep so quickly but remember that consistency is key, and by being strict with your routine and your good wellness habits, you’re going to notice a huge difference in the way your body and mind feels over the long period.

Look after yourselves, eat your greens, drink your water and you will feel like you can tackle anything that life throws at you.
