6 WAYS TO OVERCOME BACK-TO-WORK BLUES
The fairy lights and the faux Christmas tree are back in the garage, the salt water has been washed out of our beach babe hair and that New Year three-day-hangover has finally disappeared. It’s Monday the 8th and there is NO denying that we are all feeling a little bit miserable about staring at a computer screen instead of contemplating whether you’re ready to get back into the ocean after finishing just one more chapter of your book.
We’d all prefer to be brushing the sand off our skin but hey, going back to work doesn’t have to be totally depressing. I’m a bit of an advocate for organisation so a New Year back at my desk is just about as satisfying as demolishing that fourth $18 Mojito because “OH WELL WE’RE BACK AT WORK NEXT WEEK”.
I’m a little lucky to extend my sleep in and pop myself at my desk in my PJ’s to start writing up this little post of magic to help my partner, friends and you guys who may just need a little bit of inspiration to help you digest that next level of Mondayitis:
the first day back at work of the year.
SO, how are we going to tackle this?
Plan all of the new work clothes you’re going to buy with your next pay check. Whether your office space is casual enough to get away with pretty printed dresses or it’s corporate to the point where you pretty much view your wardrobe in black & white, everyone loves to online shop. Browse through your favourite online stores on your lunch break and pick a few new pieces to add into your work wardrobe this month! Keep them bookmarked and whip our the Visa Debit on pay day next week.
Some of my current favourite online stores:
Treat yourself to a new diary/planner. Obvious, but such a good one! Honestly what is better than a sexy, fresh diary sitting pretty on your desk. I have the 2018 Ruby Diary which I am using alongside my Kikki K Planner, just to keep myself EXTRA organised.
Some other favourites that I’ve used in the past or am lusting after for the future:
Organise weekend trips throughout the rest of Jan/Feb. I think it’s really easy for us to feel like summer is over, but remember team, we still have two months left! There are also a tonne of long weekends so plan a quick trip over the ditch, a Queenstown getaway or a camping weekend in Russell, Matapouri, Hahei or Whangamata. It just takes a little bit of planning but ensuring you’ve got trips to look forward to is a must, Liam and I plan to get away nearly every single weekend until March!
Bring a smile and a positive attitude to work. You’ll be everyones favourite person and it will make you feel good. Remind your work mates to book a camping trip for next weekend so you can all look forward to getting back to the beach together.
Tick off your first new year resolution on week one. There is absolutely NO excuse for not getting to the gym first thing tomorrow morning 😉 do it, you’ll feel sexy for the rest of the week and that will be awesome!
Remind yourself that this is your life and you can do whatever you want with it. A lot of my friends have finished their studies and have already settled into their first job and forget that what they’re currently doing doesn’t have to be what they do for the rest of their lives. Dreading another year of your degree? Drop out or change it! It’s not too late and it’s a lot better than forcing yourself to cram for an exam that bores you more than it should. Hate your job? Update your resume and find a new one, heck, even switch up your profession! If you’ve got work experience or even better, a degree under your belt, there’s no harm in seeing what else is out there. This is your life and you deserve to be happy this year so DO what YOU want to do.
Take a deep breath, make that second or third cup of Nespresso and remember that you have control over your life, your happiness, and your attitude. Find a way to make this week that little bit less daunting and I can almost guarantee you won’t mind being back at work once you’re stuck into it and have beach camping trips and online orders to look forward to.
GET IT, GIRL!
